this crash was related to iOS 8 changes and should be now fixed by release 1.4.0

Ideas / Re: User interface needs improving
« on: February 19, 2014, 02:45:44 pm »
First of all thanks for your comments and critics, they are very welcome!
I am taking some time to elaborate a new interface together with another developer.
As for the skeuomorphic elements: i am not a big fan of skeuomorphism, so i would say that the next interface would be a flat design UI.

About mp3 encoding: i understand would be a great feature, but software patents can be a big issue to manage, even with an in-app purchase. The price would be, according to me, too high. Adding Opus support was a way to answer to the demand of an high quality standard. It is going to be supported widely, that's what i hope at least, because it is a great codec.
Anyway we are not discarding the mp3 option for the future (patents are going to expire across Europe soon, a bit later in the USA.

Support Requests / Re: Higher ports <URGENT>

A quick update: a new release that fixes this bug and other little quirks on iOS 7 has been submitted to the AppStore today.
On a side note, a future release will bring new functionalities. For this reason there was a substantial change of the settings database. Installing this version will delete the configurations currently stored in the app.

Thanks for the product and for any assistance you can provide.

Kind regards
Jonathan Westerling

A brief follow-up: the problem is there and reproducible. I have a fix ready and i am going to submit version 1.2.4 to Apple within few hours. Then it will take their time to have it approved. Sorry for this bug and thanks for this report (it seems this was somewhat introduced with ios7 fixes).

Announcements / KoalaSan 1.2 "Eclectic Monkey"
« on: June 04, 2013, 07:21:01 pm »
*** UPDATE ***: version 1.2 has been submitted to the AppStore on the 10th of june. It is waiting for Apple review. We hope it will be available as an update soon!!

KoalaSan 1.2 will bring a great new feature, the one many people are asking for: AAC support!!
AAC is obtained via the Apple iOS included AAC encoder. This allows to support Shoutcast 1 servers too. These AAC streams can be played by many popular players, including iTunes, VLC, TuneIn Radio, etc. etc.).

Stay tuned, we're testing this new release and we plan to complete testing within 10th of june and the submit the update to the AppStore.

UPDATE: Version 1.2, as announced, will allow to use shoutcast 1 protocol. Streaming on shoutcast 2 is possible too, but only on stream id (sid) 1: Shoutcast 2 sid mechanism is therefore not supported, this should be clear. Shoutcast 2 protocol (aka Ultravox 2.1) is patent encumbered. So, at the moment, Ultravox 2.1 support is lacking.

A full change-log for this version:
- Adds AAC support (Apple AAC iOS encoder)
- Adds Shoutcast 1 support, Shoutcast 2 support (only on sid 1)
- Fix minor bugs in the stream dump area

Ideas / Re: Support for mp3 codec an Showcast protocol
« on: May 27, 2013, 10:06:16 pm »
What you observe is true, that's a shame we cannot support mp3 and aac (and believe me they're both working fine in our internal test). The fact is that we cannot afford those fees. And that the industry is not giving up with those patents.

Ideas / Re: Support for mp3 codec an Showcast protocol
« on: May 27, 2013, 01:48:20 pm »

this is a very common request and we often answer to this question. Basically, we are supporting two formats that are free. When i say free i mean we can use them and ship encoders for them without having to pay fees  for software patents. On the other hand mp3 and aac are patent-encumbered formats: mp3 software patents are expiring in europe, but the situation is not clear. At you can have a look at the patents they claim and the related fees.

I think Vorbis and Opus really outperform mp3 and partially aac on a quality base, specially at mid-low bitrates. So, what else i can say?

Shoutcast only supports mp3, aac and aac+. The reason we have no shoutcast support is that we are not supporting those formats. If shoutcast would support vorbis and opus, well, then we can support shoutcast too.

Please, could you avoid opening new topics on the same argument? I already answered on another thread.
I sent to you privately the credentials to access our test server, would you be so kind to test against it and then report back here?
Thanks in advance.
